Anxiety Treatment

There are many evidence based treatment approaches to anxiety disorders, panic disorder, and other stress/tension issues.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has long been the evidenced based treatment for Anxiety Disorders. This approach involves addressing thoughts, behaviors, and ultimately feelings and emotions.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a third wave cognitive behavioral treatment approach that involves accepting certain intense and unpleasant emotions instead of fighting against them. If you feel like you’ve been in a continual battle with yourself resulting in more panic, and more anxiety accepting parts of the anxiety can actually lower its grasp on you.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

When we’re feeling particularly anxious it all might feel confusing and stressful. ‘I don’t even know what I’m feeling, but it feels bad, and I want to stop feeling this bad, and I’m tired, and I have a million other things going on.’ Slowing down, teasing out what we’re actually feeling, and zeroing in on what specific triggers we’re experiencing can be eye opening.

Emotional Identification Skills

Emotional Processing

If we can’t identify what we’re experiencing in a given moment, how are we going to be able to address the feelings and emotions? Once we identify some of the bigger emotions/triggers/issues, we’ll be able to process them in session, learn about them, and work on challenging some of the more heinous or maladaptive thinking patterns that contribute to panic, anxiety, and stress.
